Warsaw, Poland - June 2018

My recent photoshoot in the beautiful picturesque city of Warsaw, Poland. For quite some time I have had an idea of creating a shoot based off an old Russian fairy-tale 'Snegurochka' or 'The Snow Maiden'

We travelled to Warsaw and met with another great photographer and good friend of mine Kasia Markowska. After lugging all of our luggage from the airport we had arrived in a beautiful historical 'Old Town' and were met with a cozy accomodation right in the middle of it all. We took a few days before our shoot to do some sightseeing and horse riding and also enjoyed the fine cuisine Warsaw had to offer - 'omg the dumplings'.

After meeting with Kasia, we set out to scout for locations. I knew I wanted beautiful greenery to start with in the backdrop so we travelled to a park just out of the city centre and we immediately knew this was the best location for the concept in mind. In the near distance, we spotted a large factory. A passerby informed us it was a chocolate factory, which explained the sweet scent of chocolate willowing through the air. It's not often you're treated to such a delightful smell in a park.

'The costume'

For a while now I have been following costume designer Agnieszka Osipa who is renowned for her extravagant garments and headpieces. After seeing one of her dresses, I knew it would be perfect for the concept and so it was shipped to Warsaw ahead of time for the shoot.

'Model'

It took some time to find the right model; the embodiment of Snegurochka. Ideally, they would have traditional European facial features. Going through International agencies is never an easy task, but it was worth it in the end. Straight away I could tell Matylda was the right choice; she was professional, experienced with posing and quickly understood the brief.

'Hair & makeup'

My good friend Kasia knew of a great Hair & make-up artist. From a quick glance at her work, I knew she was perfect for the job. I can certainly say she did a stellar job and I couldn't be happier.

It was if all the elements were......how should I say......perfect!

We found some beautiful flowers and thought they would make a great backdrop for some up close shots. Was just a matter of posing Matylda and positioning her head and the quite heavy headpiece.
